Having different ontologies means having different views about what exists. Ontology is the nature of existence and epistemology is the nature of knowledge.

The nature of existence grounds the nature of knowledge. There is no syllogism that allows us to go from "there is thinking going on"(Cogito) to I exist without circularity.
